HOUSE TRAIT — Iron Resolve

“We do not break. We endure.”

House Duval Heavy Knights can sustain one additional hit before being defeated.

This advantage allows House Duval to:

  • Hold key positions under sustained pressure

  • Absorb enemy charges and counterattack effectively

  • Dominate prolonged engagements

  • Anchor battle lines while others maneuver

House Duval rewards patience, positioning, and attrition-based strategy.

THE BANNER OF THE SILVER OWL

The banner of House Duval bears a silver owl in flight, clutching a silver key, upon a field of royal blue.

  • The Owl — Wisdom, foresight, and vigilance

  • The Key — Control, access, and denial

  • The Blue Field — Authority, law, and noble order

House Duval believes power is not seized in chaos—
it is administered.

ORIGINS OF HOUSE DUVAL

House Duval hails not from Brittany,
but from the Auvergne region of France.

They are the most recent arrivals to the current struggle and make no claim to Breton heritage. Instead, they argue something far more disruptive:

That Brittany should not be an independent kingdom at all—
but a sovereign duchy of France, under the protection of the French crown.

To House Duval, this is not conquest.
It is stability.

THE FRENCH QUESTION

House Duval has found fertile ground for its argument.

Many in the Breton countryside—tired of:

  • Norman aggression

  • Spanish ambition

  • Coastal Viking raids

—have begun to wonder if French protection might offer safety where independence has failed.

House Duval presents itself as the natural steward of this transition:

  • Wealthy

  • Well-connected

  • Deeply embedded in French politics

That their own blood traces back to a Norman lord is rarely mentioned.

PLAY HOUSE DUVAL IF YOU…

  • Prefer durability and defensive dominance

  • Like controlling territory and weathering attacks

  • Enjoy attrition-based warfare

  • Value long-term positioning over flashy maneuvers

  • Believe power lies in institutions, not impulses

House Duval does not rush the throne.

They intend to administer it.

And once the keys are theirs—
they do not give them back.

THE LEGACY OF THE KEY

The sigil of House Duval honors its founder, Geoffrey du Valle.

During a disastrous Flemish land swap, Geoffrey’s neighbors surrendered their castles—and their keys—only to be financially ruined.

Geoffrey did not.

By refusing to relinquish control, he preserved his holdings while others collapsed.

From that moment on, House Duval learned its defining lesson:

Power is not in land alone—
but in who holds the keys.
